In a show of community strength Schools, Churches, Businesses, Community Groups, and the Neighbourhood Police Team came together to celebrate Armley’s first ever Victorian Christmas Market.
Organised by All Together Armley the day showed everything good about the community. Despite sleet, snow and freezing conditions people turned out in their thousands to hear music from local performers and street activity from Swallow Hill and Whingate Schools. Elf’s from Interplay and singers from Christ Church.
Stalls raised money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, St Georges Crypt, Cancer Research and British Heart Foundation. A variety of traders sold Christmas related goods and food.
Traders joined in dressing their windows with seasonal themes and contributed to the atmosphere by wearing Victorian fancy dress.
A spokesperson for All Together Armley said “after the summer festival people were saying they wanted more events to bring people together so this is just another way of doing it. We want to say thank you to everyone who contributed to another great day”
